Not being a stat freak myself, I found it a breath of fresh air to finally
see a MEANINGFUL rating system espoused. All this foofaraw about seedings,
match-ups, regional appearances, etc has left me cold -- you'd think everyone
would be satisfied if their favorite team(s) make the playoffs, w/o all the
carping and nitpicking about the inequities, real or imagined, of the
schedules or venues. After all, the bulk of the schools failed to make the
cut at all...

Some of the more imaginative Mascot names appear in the lower divisions
and/or the ACHA and CIAU, where you'll find Camels, Beavers, White Mules,
Blue Hens, Sharks, Owls and Yellowjackets, to name just a few. Also the
Demons, Dragons, Gryphons, Dinosaurs, and The Violets. And the Ephs,
Johnnies, and Yeomen.

My mind boggles. I also liked the suggestion of ranking on the basis of
total letter-length of official school name plus mascot. Has a
scientific/literary validity to it that appeals to the intellectual fringe,
don't you think?

Yours with tongue firmly in cheek :-)
