Results from the semifinal round of the American Women's College Hockey
Alliance national championships at Mariucci Arena:

Harvard 5, Brown 3

Harvard was clearly the better team in the first game. While the score
was fairly close, Brown played catch-up all the way and couldn't
overtake the Crimson. Harvard's goaltender, Crystal Springer, left the
game late in the third period with an injured collarbone; her status for
tonight is unknown.

New Hampshire 3, Minnesota 2 OT

Minnesota lost a heart-breaker in overtime to New Hampshire. The
Gophers raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period on two goals by
sophomore Nadine Muzerall, but the Wildcats settled down and gradually
seized control of the game. New Hampshire scored one goal each in the
second and third periods, outshooting Minnesota 19-4 in the third
period. Wildcat goals were scored by Nicki Luongo and Melisa Heitzman.
The Gophers failed to score on four shots during a power-play in the
overtime. With a few seconds remaining in their penalty kill, New
Hampshire flew in on 2 on 1 break. Heitzman scored her second goal of
the game at 12:53 of overtime, sending UNH to the championship game
against Harvard.

Announced attendance was 2,447, which seemed fairly accurate. Only
about 3/4 of the fans remained to see the overtime which, frankly,
boggles my mind. Must have been in a hurry to get home and see the Red
Green Show, I guess.

Third place and championship games are at 4:00 and 7:00 CST at Mariucci
Arena.
