In response to Mike Machnik's comments of Feb.7th on Cornell fans
and the UVM goalie's response to them....(I can't reproduce them
here)...

As a four-year member of the Lynah Faithful, and current (Not in
Lynah but still) Faithful fan, I have to take offense. NO ONE goes to
the games to gab with their friends, as the constant noise (cheering
and pep band) renders communication in the student sections impossible
while the game is going on. The goalie-seive cheer does not
indicate a lack of knowledge of the score; the students do the same
cheers every time the Red score a goal, and they mean it every time.
If Cornell fans still find it possible to chant "Let's go Red" even
if the situation is nearly hopeless, it's because they want to do
anything they can to support the team, not because they aren't paying
attention. Seriously, I have to beleive that the author of the
statement hasn't been to a Cornell home game if he thinks the fans
didn't know the score.

And no crowd is better at remembering the guys who actually listened
to them. We scream at goalies. It's what we do. Call it rude and
boorish if you want, but don't say we're not watching. And Thomas
should have an interesting trip back to Lynah next time.
