Zoe Harris, captain and president of the club wrote in the Bangor Daily
News of 2/26/92 ...
On behalf of the University of Maine Women's Ice Hockey Club team I
would like to thank all the people who attended our games and gave us
the support and encouragement we needed to have a successful year.
Due to this great moral support, the University of Maine Women's Ice
Hockey Club team has had one of its most successful seasons since the
start of the program four years ago. We have improved our standing of
last place in our division last year to second place this year. We have
also been invited to the Women's Ice Hockey Club Championships for the
first time. The championships will be held in Boston at Northeastern
(University) and Boston College on Friday and Saturday, Feb.28 and 29.
Our final home game was played on Sunday, Feb. 23 against Boston
University ....
Editor's (WTS) Note (and editorial): The club's improvement has been
especially remarkable this year as the University stopped support
of ice time. From what I've seen (at some distance this year), the
women's club team has had less support from UMaine than community
youth hockey and the latter got to lick the dregs :-(
This is obviously a personal opinion and is not meant to be
derogatory of my otherwise fine employer and alma mater.
