Tracy,

It was a professional player, not college (he last played college hockey in
1991). His home is Bovey, MN. Name - Dean Trboyevich. The action you saw
was in retaliation for a prior incident in January when Dean had three
teeth knocked out and numerous stiches required in the mouth (hit by a
stick behind the play). Also, the same player (from Fresno) knocked another
star player out of that January game and, apparently, had that type of
reputation throughout the league. At the urging of the Fresno team
management, the player filed a complaint which resulted in Trboyevich being
arrested with a Fresno City Attorney setting a criminal trial date. No
lawsuit was filed. Fresno city eventually dropped the case with the lame
execuse that sports displine properly belonged with the professional league
(the two players mutually agreed to that via a telephone conversation).
Trboyevich's lawyer was going to file a personal lawsuit against the other
player involved if the City persisted in bring the case to trail. Both
players were suspended but not for the entire season. Trboyevich had played
professionally in the IHL (Detroit) and East Coast Leagues prior to the
Fresno incident so it wasn't an inexperienced 'out-of-control' act as
portrayed. Also, it was unusal behavior for him, but never-the-less highly
inappropiate. The end result may be that he'll simply hang up his skates
since a family and other extenuating circumstances are involved.
