This is absolutely untrue.  Despite the fact that the NCAA makes it very
difficult and unpleasant for an athlete to change teams, a team can change
players as it chooses.  A scholarship is for one year only and is renewed at
the discretion of the school.  The ways in which this option is wielded by
some coaches (none that I know of in hockey, but I'd be very surprised if it
doesn't happen somewhere) is truly heinous.  Don't ever let anyone tell you
(as several have told me) that when an underclassman turns pro that he's
being selfish since the school made a four year committment to him.  It's
done nothing of the kind.
