Well, at least Cornellians have something to mull over for a few days.

The Big Red lose eight key players but gain eight frosh and a transfer;
so far so good. Also, there's the correct breakdown by position: 6 forwards
to replace a severely depleted corps. 3 blue liners to step in for a
couple departees. No goalies need apply, either this year or next
(with Elliott and Pelletier, now Jr. and So., pulling the load).

If there is quality as well as quantity (and there is size, at least,
and a number of 20's, 30's, and 40's in last year's G and A stats),
the Big Red dodge the graduation Bulge which ripped reduced a
four time ECAC Final Four squad to 11th place the last time it rippled
through in summer '92.

And, given the evident quality of this Spring's graduates, why didn't
they save that awful '93 team? Simple: the upper class members of that
team did not number among them a Steve Wilson, a Kyle Knopp, a Vinnie
Auger, and they sure as heck didn't have anyone or anything approaching
a Matt "the terminator" Cooney.

You can't tell much from a laundry lost of players, but at least we
are blessedly bereft of those 5-9 / 160 numbers we have seen in the past.
