The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for November 23, 1994:
Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.
With Michigan State's split against Alaska-Fairbanks, Maine takes over the
top spot in the HOCKEY-L poll. Colorado College made a big move as well,
jumping four spots into #2. Farther down, Clarkson makes a return trip to
the top 15, replacing Lake Superior. This marks the first time in HOCKEY-L
poll history that the Lakers have been out of the top 15. The only team
left that has made the HOCKEY-L poll every week since its inception is
Michigan.
This week's total of 34 responses is not only a new high for the HOCKEY-L
poll, but is also twelve *more* than the number of voters on the panel for
Tim Leonard's Troy Record poll-to-end-all-polls. And I haven't even put
this on my resume :-)

Others receiving votes: Miami, Western Michigan, Lake Superior, Union,
Ferris State, RPI, North Dakota, Denver, Mass Lowell, Northern
Michigan, Dartmouth
Teams named on all responses: Maine, Colorado College, Boston
University, Michigan State, Minnesota, Bowling Green, Brown
Dropped out of Top 15: Lake Superior (#12 last week)
Plug #2: No other poll lists the range of votes for each team, nor do they
indicate which teams were named on all ballots. Frivolous, perhaps, but
this information is at times interesting and useful (like this week, for
example, somebody missed Michigan, and they still finished fifth. Maybe the
Wolverines could have moved up to fourth? Food for thought.)
Pretty close agreement between this week's Eastern and Western polls. The
Westerners wound up distributing their #1 votes among twice as many teams as
the Easterners did. The one oddity of note is that Brown's first-place vote
came from a Western voter.
(Plug #3: No other poll does this, either)

Here is this week's composite of the four media polls and the HOCKEY-L poll.
Nobody seems to know who the #1 team in college hockey is; four different
teams were named #1, with only Boston University getting the nod in more
than one poll. Nobody but HOCKEY-L is really noticing Maine yet. Despite
Brown's 5-0 record, I'm surprised that the Bears are getting as much respect
as they are. Knocking off Harvard a few weeks ago seems to have opened some
eyes...

HOCKEY-L POLL ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE:
I will be out of town Wednesday through Friday of next week. Thus, for next
week only, I'd like to move the deadline for responses up 12 hours. The
deadline will be Tuesday at 12:00 noon, rather than midnight. That way, I'll
be able to get the poll out late Tuesday afternoon, rather than waiting until
Saturday.
