So far today there have been only minor issues with the mail server
generally having to do with the change in IP address. We did run into
one issue that might bite some people and I thought you should be aware:

One of the new features included in the upgrade is that we now support
SSL and TLS SMTP connections on mail.maine.edu (we have supported this
on mail1.maine.edu for some time now). When this feature is used, we
require SMTP authentication with a valid UNET userid and password.

The gotcha is that some mail clients are by default configured to use
SSL or TLS if available, but don't send a userid/password unless
configured to do so. The error messages this produces may or may not be
clear.

The symptoms are that a person can receive mail, but gets an odd error
that may mention TLS or SSL when they send mail.

The fix is to either have them configure the mail client to never use
TLS or SSL for SMTP or better have them configure it to authenticate
with a userid and password.
