The upgrade ran into a problem and I had to back it out.  All should be
back as it was.  We will try the upgrade again once the problem has been
sorted out.

For those interested in the problem...

The new software required new authentication mechanisms and in it all
worked fine in tests and indeed once I started up the new server it all
worked fine until I opened it up to the masses of users, when the
authentication processes started failing one by one.

The problem may be load related or it may have something to do with
users doing something unexpected (they have a way of doing that).
