I guess that I do not consider the Xcel, Verizon, Worcester Centrum, or
Portland Civic "home ice" for anyone, as others apparently do. If we are
talking fan support, there were probably more UNH and UMaine fans than BC
and BU fans at the "New Garden" for the Hockey East tournament this past
Friday night (sure, "everything is closer in the East," etc., but when I
lived in the West we adapted by driving 5-10 times farther for
everything).

No, it isn't. I presume that BU could host at their home rink if it were
larger.

Mariucci Arena is large enough (capacity 10,000), so Minnesota hosts the
regional there. The only alternatives are the Xcel Center (which Charles
considers to be another Minnesota home arena) in St Paul and the Target
Center
(NBA arena which can accomodate hockey, inferior to the Xcel Center) in
Minneapolis. The Xcel Center and Target Center are larger than needed,
and
would cost significant money to rent. If Minnesota hosts a regional,
Mariucci
Arena is the only reasonable venue.
