Based on personal opinion, NCAA and USHL hiring/firing trends, and the
personal experience of a CSB scout, getting a Division 1 (or lesser divisions)
head coaching job or even a USHL position largely depends on your resume,
which should include and in this order:
COACH QUALIFYING SYSTEM
1. Recent success behind the bench.
2. Your reputation and connections.
2. Overall coaching experience.
2. Your education, degrees.
2. College and or NHL playing experience. Minors don't cut it.
COACH DISQUALIFYING SYSTEM
1. If you don't measure up from the start, you may be picked on an interim
basis till someone better comes along.
2. Unless you're a Wolverine or Spartan icon your short contract probably
means you have to put out or get out.
3. If you haven't already been featured online in a propaganda-ish spoof, you
may still have a solid coaching future.
4. Even under halls of ivy, your job can be pick-pocketed right from under
your nose.
5. If rapacity is a personal problem, you may experience some disassembling.
6. If you have a tell all need to glut and purge, you probably should see a
behaviorist.
7. If you're approaching retirement, your successors will be listening at your
bedside for a heartbeat.
Note: Notice how the disqualifying part is intrinsically more entertaining.
