2nd Annual Q Cup Will Feature New Student-Friendly Dates

Hamden, Conn. - Due to scheduling conflicts and the availability of new
dates, Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald announced that
the 1998 Q Cup has moved to consecutive Wednesdays, January 28th and
February 4th. The post-holiday tournament will feature local favorites
Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Villanova, and Holy Cross.
"We are very pleased and grateful that Jim Perillo of the New Haven
Coliseum has provided these outstanding dates for the Q Cup. These
dates will now provide students at Quinnipiac and Fairfield the
opportunity to see Division I hockey at the Coliseum. The Q Cup
continues to be New Haven+s premier college sporting attraction as it
brings some of the best names in intercollegiate athletics to the
Coliseum at fan-friendly prices," said McDonald.
The Q Cup, a model of the Beanpot, Boston+s favorite hockey tradition,
is geared toward lifting Connecticut hockey to a higher level in the
region. The First Annual Q Cup in 1997 attracted over 2,000 fans over
the course of the two-day event. The tournament, held over Christmas
weekend, was hailed as a success by organizers, media and fans. The
crowds represented record attendance figures for Braves+ hockey games.
UConn won the Q Cup with a 5-0 title game victory over Quinnipiac, while
Fairfield fell to Worcester State in the consolation.
The games will also be broadcast on radio airwaves on 1220 AM WQUN.
Nationally-renowned CBS Radio Network Anchor/Producer Bill Schweizer
will do the announcing.
1220 AM WQUN covers news and events in the greater New Haven area. WQUN
