Ouch indeed. Well, perhaps "Most Valuable" refers to salaries, who knows...
 
I wish I still had John K's original post, but there are a few issues I'd take
umbrage with:
 
Yes, the GLI did at one time play to capacity crowds, but attendance has
sagged the last five years. There are several theories explaining this, but
they all lead to sniping over whose tournament it is, woofing and other
unpleasantries.
 
Attendance at NCAA Regionals held at The Joe have been disappointing (unless
UM or MSU draws the seed) to the point where the West Reg. was at Munn last
year...and East Lansing canNOT be considered "greater Detroit."
 Hey, if only 6,000 are gonna show, why not put 'em in a 6,000 cap.

To Detroit's credit, the city does support teams from the NHL, IHL, NAJHL, CHL,
ECHL (to include Toledo in the metro area) and OHL, as well as the CCHA,
whenever UM or MSU are in town. But it's also proven that for college hockey,
unless there's Maize and/or Green on the ice, the fan base isn't there. It's
clearly a *hockey* hotbed, but not so much a *college* hockey hotbed.
