PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on March 29 that Providence College
Hockey Coach Paul Pooley was named Second Team CCHA All-Decade for the
1980s. The CCHA, in conjunction with its 30th anniversry season, released
its All-Decade Teams for the 1990s, 1980s and 1970s.

As a player at Ohio State, Pooley and his twin brother, Perry, played for
some of the most successful teams in Buckeye history. Paul finished his
career as Ohio State's all-time leader in goals (114), assists (156) and
points (270). He was the Central Collegiate Hockey League's Player of the
Year and the Bauer Player of the Year as college hockey's leading scorer
with 32 goals and 64 assists for 96 points in 41 games in 1984. He
graduated cum laude with degrees in accounting and marketing. In September
of 1994, the high scoring forward was named to Ohio State's Athletic Hall
of Fame.

A three-time member of the CCHA's All-Academic Team, he was an Academic
All-American in 1984. Among his other accomplishments in the CCHA was
Co-Rookie of the Year honors in 1981 and First Team All-Star in
1984. Pooley is the league's third all-time leading scorer with 207 career
points on 82 goals and 125 assists.

Pooley, in his seventh season (125-118-21)as the Friars' head coach, guided
the Friars to their best finish ever in HOCKEY EAST regular season and
their ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament this season. He is the first Friar
Head Coach to earn New England Coach of the Year honors since Mike McShane
earned the accolade in 1989. The Friars, 22-13-5, were the runners-up in
the HOCKEY EAST Tournament (losing to Boston College, 5-3, in the finals)
and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, falling to Wisconsin,
4-1, in the West Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Friars' were picked
sixth in the HOCKEY EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and overcame numerous
losses due to graduation to finish tied for second-place with Maine. The
Friars posted a 13-8-5 record in league play, which marked the most HOCKEY
EAST wins for a Providence College team since the 1988-89 squad finished
13-11-2.

Pooley and his wife, Kelly, reside in North Providence, R.I. with their
6-year old son Scott, and 3-year old daughter, Taylor.
