The Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (2-1), who were the Division
II runner ups to Bemidji St last year, has won 3 of its last
4 games against Division I conference opponents. In
1993-94, UAH won at Providence and split a home series with
Merrimack, while winning by a score of 4-3 on the road at
Ohio State this past weekend.
Although these teams (PU, Merr, OSU) have lately finished in
the lower portion of their respective leagues, I believe
that UAH could have made a "respectable" showing in a
Division I conference. However, the Chargers are hindered
by geography and mainly, a microscopic budget which results
in weak scheduling and some "word of mouth" recruiting.
