Hello again,
Bear with me there was acouple items that came to me - some
on personal notes - others acroos hockey-l and hockey3.
I hav'nt figured out how you >>> paraphrase previous
notes, so I 'll just use names and subject.
1. Jaslow - re: NCAA site and fredonia
The rink is more like Potsdam St. - seating on one side -
about 1000 capacity - maybe a few hundred more if they
cram in standing room only. Plenty of parking and
close to major airport (45 minutes from BFLO).
Although its great to look ahead. Let's be cautious here.
There's a lot of postseason ahead and with the NESCAC
schools being allowed to choose to play in NCAA III (its
a decision of either ECAC or NCAA from my understanding)
there's a lot more teams in the mix for this year.
The decision of who gets in from the EAST NCAA III will
be interesting. First, the winner of SUNYAC is automatic.
What if Fredonia gets upset by Plattsburgh ??? Do both
go ? Then you have Elmira. That means only ONE from
the MASS/NESCAC group ? My question to Craig C at Bowdoin
who's the best out there in the EAST that might go to
the nationals at this point? remember Holy Cross, AIC,
UCONN are not d-III.
Certainly Fredonia has the inside track of hosting
all the way thru if they keep winning - and there
rink is small in capacity but fine for the site.
It'll be tough to get in to see - they'll pack it.
2. R.I.T. - viele comments....
I think Mr. viele is being a bit harsh here. Its
not high school hockey and... its tough to tell
college players in one game to not be hungry
and in others to go all out. The true picture
of whether or not a coach is "running it up" -
is how much ice time does his 3rd and 4th lines
get in those games and does he use those players
on power play and penalty kill - especially
late in the game. When we played AT SCRANTON -
my top 4 players were told to take a shower with 10
minutes left in the game and everybody played
special teams. We won 17-0. There coach said
I ran it up ????? Hell if I would have kept
Bishop in there for the whole game he would be
ECAC WEST scoring leader - he's made at me for
making him take a shower early.
This past week Fredonia beat Buff St. 19-0.
I heard thru Buff St. coach that many of Fredonia
best players were on the ice in the last minute
on the power play ??? There's a lot of "behind
the scenes" things that go on within the coaching
ranks - maybe Both RIT vs Scranton (Sranton may have
folded in the last 5 minutes) and fredonia vs buff
state (scoring lead, being relaxed, etc) that
some people don't see from the stands. I won't
even get into the "payback" theory in these games.
3. Lerch - viele's flame.
Chris disregard those comments. Its no reflection
on you as an alumni and your dedication to this
network or your knowledge of the game. Maybe RIT
did run it up - that's not your fault its the
coach's. Your a great fan - probably better than
most because I see "objectvity" in your posts.
4. Kenny Z - the "wave off sign".
IMHO - no wave off sign should ever be given by
a referee for a "no Call" - but what should be
done is to REHAUL the entire training and evaluation
process. The officials are overpaid and under
trained and rarely evaluated - with the purpose of -
making them accountable for poor performance.
What I have heard from refs this year has been
unbelievable - on the ice. Things like -
"now were even"
" now its even"
" he deserved it"
" shut up"
" make your fans sit down"
I thought they were there to officiate - since when
do they critique a coach or a player. If you think
some of the ECAC refs are bad that do Clarkson, Cornell
Colgate, RPI, St Lawrence - you should see what we get.
... dont get me started Artie Wander , WBEN Radio 1994.
