With a smile on his face, University of Maine Black Bears head
coach Shawn Walsh looked on as the final 10 seconds of the NCAA
quarterfinal game between the Black Bears and Golden Gophers of
Minnesota wound down.
Hobey Baker finalist Jim Montgomery had two goals and two assists
and Minnesota natives Cal Ingraham and Justin Tomberlin each scored
a goal as the Black Bears defeated the Golden Gophers 6-2 at
Worcester Centrum in Worcester, Mass.
Paul Kariya, also a Hobey Baker finalist, scored Maine's 21st short
handed goal of the season in the second period, and added two
assists.
Maine scored four power play goals and one short handed goal, while
Minnesota scored two power play goals of their own.
Maine is now 40-1-2.
Maine will play the Michigan Wolverines next week in the semi
finals at Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
