Greg Somerville writes that he would like to see a 16 team
tournament .... so would all the coaches .... and......
it would be easier for 4 sites and 4 winners for a final 4.

One problem - numbers. There are only 43 (or less) teams
that are eligible for the national championship. The NC$$
already believes that this does NOT warrant a 16 team
tournament. In fact, in there way of calculating things,
it does NOT warrant 12 either. Hockey better watch out
or they will get reduced NOT increased.

The key for the NC$$ championship is participating
numbers of schools eligible. For hockey to get more
teams involved - more teams need to be a part at the
D-I level (minimun 20 games). Someday, hockey
will realize that the "power" is in numbers and
try to do everything to get more teams (schools)
involved.

It took Woman's B-Ball a long time but they finally
got there 64 team championship - but there are
approx 275 colleges that play D-I women's b-ball.

The last I saw in the NCAA NEWS - hockey ranks at
the bottom in participation - along with water polo.
Ask a few of your coaches out there at the "D-I"
about this.
