The two LSSU-BGSU games were about as alike as any two games can be.
The score is tied at 2 during the third period. Both teams are playing
pretty well. Then BG falls asleep for a minute and the Lakers score
twice. Turn out the lights... They add two more for padding.
In Friday's game, Hobey candidate Jim Dowd got thrown out for fighting.
BG's leading goal-scorer Martin Jiranek went with him, so I don't think
the Falcons got any great gift there. It wasn't much of a fight and I
was surprised that the guys didn't get 4 minute roughings because they
aren't goons. But, punches were thrown, so away they went, missing 4 periods
of action on the weekend.
Usually, people say that the ref should award penalties to keep teams from
getting too rough. In this case, tho, both teams got very feisty after their
star players were kicked out. At least 4 10-minuters were handed out Friday
and the total penalty minutes came in at ~100. Needless to say, this was
not the best ref the CCHA has.
Overall, the Lakers sure looked like #1 to me.
Keith
