'HAWKS ROLL OVER WINDSOR: Miami University's ice hockey team wrapped up its
preseason in style Saturday night, cruising to a 6-1 exhibition win over
the University of Windsor.
Miami seized control early, rolling to a 4-0 lead by the
five-minute mark of the second period. Senior Gregor Krajnc drew first
blood on the Lancers at 3:17 in the first, punching in a score with assists
from junior Jason Deskins and sophomore Nick Jardine. Jake Ortmeyer added
Miami's second first-period goal with less than a minute to play in the
frame, tallying a score off an assist by junior Matt Chandler.
Sophomore Chris Knupp got the RedHawks started in the second
period by slapping home a shot that was set up by Ken Marsch's assist while
senior Pat Leahy, who tallied two goals on the night, notched his first
with help from Deskins and Ortmeyer at the 4:27 mark.
Windsor's Kevin Hansen finally ended Miami's scoring run at the
6:56 mark in the second, sneaking the Lancer's only goal past RedHawk
freshman goaltender David Bowen, but Jardine regained the momentum for
Miami by knocking in a goal just eight seconds later. Leahy finished off
Miami's offensive fireworks in the third period, tallying a score with 6:28
remaining in the game off an assist from freshman Derek Edwardson
Bowen earned the win in goal for the Red and White, stopping nine
Lancer shots on the night. In all, Miami outshot Windsor 38-10.

RED AND WHITE TIE IN INTRASQUAD SCRIMMAGE: Miami University's Red and
White teams battled to a 2-2 tie Friday night in a preseason ice hockey
scrimmage at Goggin Arena.
In a contest that consisted of two continuous 22-minute halves,
neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first frame.
Sophomore goaltender David Burleigh tallied 12 saves on the half for the
Red team, which took only four shots on goal in the first frame.
Miami's White team came roaring out of the gates in the second
frame, tallying two goals in less than four minutes. Senior Gregor Krajnc
put the White team on the board first with a close-range goal set up by
senior Pat Leahy and junior Ken Marsch. Freshman Aaron Price continued the
White team's momentum at the 3:41 mark with Marsch contributing his second
assist on the goal.
The Red Team rallied behind a pair of freshmen as A.J.
