There was a study done recording the penalties from the Stanley Cup Series
from 1980 to 1997. The authors suggest, "coaches should adjust their team
policies and recruiting practices to benefit from the strategic advantage of
reducing player violent behavior." This is because the study shows that
violent behavior is counterproductive to a favorable game outcome, less real
scoring chances. Less violent team behavior produces more shots on goal for
winning teams.

Right, cause the only way they can stop them is by applying goon tactics.
When skill, and game preparation aren't there, cheap shots make the play.
This is not hockey at its best.
