It depends on the community.  One could argue that the entertainment value
of an intercollegiate hockey contest is a service to a community.  One could
go further in claiming that a college hockey player in (for example) Duluth,
Houghton, or Orono is a source of civic pride; far more so than being one in
Boston or St. Paul.
