This game was a nail-biter right down to the quick finish in overtime. We
got Robin Anderson again for a referee, who worked last weekend's series
with Michigan Tech, but this time only 8 penalties were called, compared
to 25 and 19 last weekend.

CC went on the penalty kill less than two minutes into the game. During
the Denver power play, at one point goaltender Stephen Wagner was behind
the net getting the puck and T.J. Tanberg slid into him, knocking him off
his skates. Nothing was called, though, so either the officials didn't
think it was that bad, or they didn't see it. The Tigers got themselves on
the board a little under 5 minutes in on a goal by Aaron Karpan, who put
in the rebound of Tanberg's shot. Midway through the period, while CC was
on the penalty kill for the second time, Scott Swanson had a breakaway
chance, and the fans thought it went in, but the goal judge and the
officials said no. (The poor goal judge was subjected to the fans'
displeasure several times tonight...one fan even ran up to the booth and
stuck an eye chart against the glass, disagreeing with one of the no-goal
calls) The majority of the penalties were called in this period.

The second period went by quickly. Denver woke up this period, after being
outshot 12-1 in the first, and evened things up 6 and a half minutes in on
a goal by Mark Rycroft. Toby Petersen reclaimed the lead for CC with 6
minutes left in the period, and the Tigers went into intermission
precariously holding ont a 2-1 lead. Only one penalty called this period.

Denver had their moments again in the third period, and tied up the game
again a little under halfway in, shortly after a faceoff, which Paul Veres
tapped in. Jason Cugnet made some great saves during the rest of the
period to keep the game from being 3-2 Denver. There was so much action
back and forth in the last few minutes that it literally went down to the
last couple of seconds before we knew there would be overtime.

Another regular intermission, as they took the time to resurface before
the 20 minute overtiem period. But it turned out that it probably wasn't
necessary after all, as the Tigers came on strong from the start of the
period, and Jason Gudmundson put in the second shot of the period and the
game winner only 42 seconds into overtime.

Same two teams tomorrow night. Denver can play well when they want to, and
this series could very well go to Sunday night.
