Union did hold their own against the HE teams they faced, but it is quite a
large stretch to say that they handled Merrimack handily. Union led 3-0
after one and won 4-2, but they were outshot 39-27 and out-attempted 63-39.
Trevor Koenig was a deserving first star and was the difference in the
game, stopping all but two of Merrimack's 29 shots over the last two
periods. URL for my recap of this game:

It's up there (literally), but in the two years that I did color for
Merrimack, my favorite places were Northeastern and Merrimack.
Northeastern also has a vantage point that is right over the ice surface,
and at Merrimack, being the home radio station (back when there was one),
we got the front row of the press box and were closer to the action than
almost anyplace else. That enables you to spot the little things that you
don't see from some other places. Lowell and PC are up there too for this
reason.
The worst places to broadcast from are the spots behind one net, like BU
and UNH's Snively Arena (Whittemore is much better), and the ones where
you're far away from the action, like Maine and BC. That's why I say that
in general, I'll take the smaller rinks with their broadcast locations
close to the action. BU is great for the action in your end, but when it
moves down the other end, you sometimes need a pair of binoculars to follow
it closely.
