Please put to rest ALL rumors that Brush Christiansen, Hockey Coach at Anchorage-Alaska for more than 500 games left under any condition other than that of his own choosing -- any speculation of this nature is terribly unfair to both him and the UAA hockey program.

The exact opposite is true, and this has been an exceptionally emotional weekend for UAA hockey fans in Anchorage. Brush was faced with standing, sustained ovation at least three times this weekend that I'm aware of. Several speakers were overcome with emotion and unable to continue. He received widespread praise from both this community and sources outside of it.

He chose to leave in a very classy manner. Tonight was Senior's night and he asked that it be reserved for them only and that his leaving not detract from that. Tim Dillion, Athletic Director, has announced that we will have a day next fall to recognize Coach Christiansen's contributions (regardless of Brush's request, a small recognition was nevertheless presented at the game tonight -- to a long, sustained ovation by the roughly 6000 fans). Brush's home is in Anchorage and he will continue to live here.

A committee is being put together to determine a successor. It will include all major interest groups -- former players, Blueliner Club, University administrators/ students and etc. The intent is to make a selection by or before May 24th.

Unfortunately, Denver University was in town and required to play under these conditions. UAA put together a sweep. The last game was a fitting tribute to the seniors, Brush, and the program -- a very close game (2-1) with a win in overtime.
