Russia came from behind and dominated the second and third periods to
decisively beat Finland 6-2 at Amherst. Finland will now play the US for
fifth place in the tournament. Russia will meet Canada in the
semifinals. In the other semifinal the Czech Republic meets Sweden.
They met in the round robin and played to the only scoreless tie in the
history of the tournament.

Finland scored first at 5:59 of the first period when Janne Salpa drove
home his own rebound. Finland outshot the Russians 12-9 and according to
TSN had 6 scoring chances to 3 for the Russians.

Finland picked up where they left off in the second period scoring at
3:54, but that was all she wrote. Russia scored five unanswered goals in
the remainder of the period including a pair at 19:06 and 19:21 when an
extraordinary event occurred. In an echo of Patrick Roy, the Finnish
goaltender left the ice in disgust after the fifth Russian goal. He was
*not* pulled but the coach replaced him. After the game, differing from
Gilles Tremblay, the Finnish coach said that the defence deserved the
contempt displayed. I've never seen anything quite like it when the back
up from the coach is taken into account.

Both semifinal games will be seen live in Canada on TSN.
