             FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY,
             DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
 
             Background: Ferris State University invites applications and
             nominations for the position of Director of Athletics. Founded
             in 1884, FSU sponsors 12 varsity sports, including 11 at the
             NCAA Division II level. The hockey team competes in Division I
             as a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
             Football competes in the Midwest Intercollegiate Football
             Conference and the other sports compete in the Great Lakes
             Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
 
             Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President for Student
             Affairs, the Director is responsible for providing
             administrative leadership for outstanding intercollegiate
             athletic programs for men's and women's sports. Prudent
             management of budgets; strategic planning; supervision of
             athletic staff and facilities. Coordinating and developing
             fund-raising efforts as well as enhancing public relations.
             Maintaining academic excellence and achieving gender equity
             and ethnic diversity. Insure institutional compliance with
             NCAA, league rules and standards as well as Title IX
             expectations.
 
             Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree is required; degrees
             in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and/or
             Educational Administration is preferred. Three years'
             administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics
             required along with personal and professional integrity.
             Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary.
             Candidates must possess strong promotional and marketing
             skills with the ability to work with boosters, alumni and
             other support organizations to further the goals of the
             athletic program. Experience in coaching at the
             intercollegiate level is highly desirable and valued.
             Understanding of the relationship between athletics and the
             academic mission of the University is expected.
