I attended the West regionals this weekend and after watching the
Minnesota-Umass lowell game I had a Question to those that are familiar with
the play of Minnesota. What is going on with their defense. They were the
most un-offensive minded players I have ever seen. While there is nothing
wrong with being defensive minded, in fact it is the way to win, they often
passed up open shots to feed it to a winger. The few shots they attempted were
soft and way off course, not even suitable for a tip or redirection. In
addition they never pinched in, even when they had plenty of time to hold a
puck in they usually allowed the Lowell players to grab the puck and make a
rush while they were backing up? Obviously they are a good team, making it to
the final four but is this the way they usually play? Any comments or
corrections to my observations are encouraged.
