Good morning! The fog outside my window seems appropriate this morning.

First, thank you each and all so much for the work you are doing for your respective communities and each other. Maine's Home Rule means local municipalities still hold a great deal of responsibility for how local operations and decisions are made, and everyone is working hard to balance what is best for their respective communities. As always, we are here to help you in whatever way you and your community need.

In my "other" office, I have a favorite quote on my wall from [Chris Pine's] Captain Kirk from "Star Trek: Into Darkness": " I have no idea what I am supposed to do. I only know what I can do." Thank you each and all for doing what you CAN do.

There are several Zoom and YouTube discussions going on today around services to communities that have little or no home internet or device capability. You are welcome to join!

For libraries in Aroostook, Washington, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Hancock Counties, the Northeast Workforce Development Board is meeting via Zoom today at 11 am. You are welcome to tune in:

At noon, Broadband Breakfast meets on YouTube livestreaming to discuss issues around connectivity in rural areas, schools' and libraries' crucial roles during the pandemic, and FCC updates.

Join in by tuning into the Broadband Breakfast channel on YouTube.

At 1:00, the National Digital Inclusion Alliance has the first of planned weekly Zoom calls. From Executive Director Angela Siefer: "We are setting up weekly NDIA Community Zoom calls. Purpose will be to share national resources and on-the-ground strategies for providing digital inclusion services during this health crisis. In the realm of national resources, we'll discuss free and low-cost internet plans and more. Local strategies will get into how local programs are getting computers into homes, getting community members signed up for internet and providing tech support and training - all by staying 6 feet apart?"

If you are a larger library reading this, then thank you! And please know that you are also welcome to join in. The bulk of these discussions has been around servicing communities with little to no broadband infrastructure, but all knowledge and experience are welcomed and encouraged.

Respectfully and sincerely,
Lisa
