One small advantage of being unable to go to Lake Placid was being able
to see the replays during the TV coverage. On Clarkson's second goal, O'Brien
was coming around from behind his own net and instead of going outside around
Todd Marchant, who was standing next to the goal, he tried to cut between
Marchant and the goal. Todd stuck out his stick, knocked the puck from
O'Brien and it went by Finch inside the post. It wasn't so much a fluke as
a good effort by Marchant, though he was lucky it got through such a small
gap into the net.
Bri is right about the incredible turnaround. In fact, thinking back
to the Clarkson/Brown game here over XMAS break, it would have been difficult
at the time to imagine either team playing in the championship game. Gaudet
and Brown deserve a great deal of credit for a fine season; I think they only
won 1 game four years ago. As for Clarkson, what more can be said? Onward
to the NCAAs...
