CCHA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK: Lake Superior State University sophomore netminder
Darrin Madeley has been named CCHA Player-of-the-Week for January 18-19.
Madeley, a 5-11, 165 lb. native of Holland Landing, Ontario, made 14 saves in
a 3-3 overtime tie Friday vs. Michigan State. In Saturday's 4-0 Laker win,
Madeley made 24 stops to earn his second career shutout. For the weekend, he
stopped 38 of 41 Spartan shots (.927). The shutout was the first of a
Michigan State team since January 23, 1981 (440 games) when Michigan Tech
blanked MSU 5-0.
This is the second time this year and in his career Madeley has been named
CCHA Player-Of-The-Week.

commanding 34-5-2 lead having won seven of the last 10 meetings. Last Meeting:
Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at BGSU, the Falcons won 6-5 (OT) Friday as Matt Ruchty, Peter
Holmes and Brett Harkins all had two goals. UIC won 5-3 Saturday with Larry
Pilut (UIC) and Martin Jiranek (BGSU) each scoring twice. Last Meeting at UIC:
Dec. 8-9, 1989, the teams split the series with BGSU winning the opener 4-1,
while UIC rebounded for a 5-4 victory on Bob Melton's goal at 1:02 of overtime.
Ohio State entertains Kent State in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday (22nd)
while having the upcoming weekend (25-26) off because of playing three games
over the Christmas holiday. The Buckeyes host the University of Michigan on
February 1-2 at the OSU Ice Rink. OSU is coached by Jerry Welsh (298-276-41
in 16 years). His 296 wins place him 25th on the NCAA all-time win list.

CCHA Coaches rank among NCAA leaders in All-Time wins: Michigan State's Ron
Mason is second with 621 victories, while Bowling Green mentor Jerry York is
eighth with 417 triumphs. Ohio State's Jerry Welsh is 25th with 298 wins,
while Western Michigan's Bill Wilkinson is 57th with 173 victories. Michigan's
Red Berenson is 77th with 127 wins.
Lakers look to break school record unbeaten streak: LSSU, with a win and a
tie this past weekend, tied the school record with a 14-game unbeaten streak
(12-0-2) that was set during the 1968-69 (14-0-0) season by Coach Ron Mason's
squad.
Painter returns to OSU lineup: Buckeye sophomore blueliner Glenn Painter
returned after missing 23 games with an arm injury. Painter had two assists
Friday and one on Saturday. OSU is now 5-0-1 with Painter in the lineup.
43 former CCHA players appear in NHL: 43 former CCHA players have played in
NHL regular season games this season including nine making their first
appearance: Marc Potvin (BGSU/DET), Greg Parks (BGSU/NYI), Nelson Emerson
(BGSU/StL), Dan Keczmer (LSSU/MINN), Rene Chapdelaine (LSSU/LA), Steve
McKichan (MIA/VAN), Myles O'Connor (MICH/NJ), Don Gibson (MSU/VAN) and Pat
Murray (MSU/PHL). Last year 47 former CCHA players saw action in the NHL.
Rutherford now 17th on Buckeye goal charts: With two goals on Saturday, Ohio
State senior center Paul Rutherford now has 68 career goals to tie him with
Mark Anderson ('85-88) for 17th place on the Buckeye lists.
MSU consecutive game scoring record falls: After scoring at least one goal in
440 consecutive games, Michigan State's streak came to halt Saturday as Lake
Superior's Darrin Madeley made 24 saves to record the shutout. MSU was last
blanked on January 23, 1981 by Michigan Tech 5-0 (four days short of 10
years).
CCHA Average Game Time: Through the first 105 games this season the average
game time is 2:18.4 which includes 24 overtime contests and 12 TV games.
Roberts and Taylor each record hat tricks: Michigan's David Roberts had three
goals and two assists in the Wolverines 9-1 win at Bowling Green Friday.
Ferris State's Rod Taylor had two goals and two assists in Friday's 8-5 win
over Air Force. He followed that up with three goals on Saturday to give him
an NCAA leading 33 lamp-lighters.
