The Tigers finally managed a win after a 7 game losing streak. Air Force
scored first with only a few minutes left in the first period to take a 1-0
lead into intermission. Midway through the second period that would change
drastically, though, as CC scored 4 unanswered goals. R.J. Enga put the
Tigers on the board a little before the halfway mark to tie it at 1-1. A few
minutes later Chad Remackel gave CC the lead as he scored a shorthanded goal.
Then, on a power play of our own, Jay McNeill took a shot from the blue line
which sailed past the Falcon goalie to hit the back of the net and make it
3-1 CC. Jay also scored another goal to increase the lead to 4-1 before the
Falcons finally scored their second goal with 44 seconds left in the period.
Air Force was mistaken to think then that they would finish the period only
2 down, because with one second left in the period, Colin Schmidt scored the
fifth goal for the Tigers to regain their 3 goal lead. The only scoring for
the third period was a power play goal by Jody Jaraczewski to give CC its
biggest and final lead of the night, with the score 6-2. Needless to say,
after that goal the Cadet Ice Arena began to empty as Falcon fans realized
that there was not very much hope in catching up at this point. The game was
fairly rough, with lots of hard checking, tripping, and deliberate hooking by
Air Force, but not very many penalties were called by the refs. At least the
Tigers managed to pull off one more win this season, even if it might be their
last, with only the DU series remaining in regular season play and then the
first round of WCHA playoffs, most likely against either Minnesota-Duluth or
Wisconsin. Box to come sometime tomorrow.
