According to an article in this morning's Boston Globe, a teleconference
involving NCAA director of championships Tom Jacobs and NCAA men's Division
1 hockey committee chairman Jack McDonald on Mon March 11 discussed the
seeding process for this year's tournament and future tournaments. The full
text of the article can be found at:
http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/071/sports/Security_risks_may_cut_Div_1_ho
ckey_flights+.shtml

The NCAA's immediate goal is to minimize flying for next week's East and
West Regionals in Worcester and Ann Arbor, Mich., respectively. That is in
response to the fear of increased security risks following the terrorist
attacks of Sept. 11. The ground travel minimum has been increased from 300
to 400 miles, meaning any team located within that distance from a regional
is prohibited from air travel.

This means that John's placing of UNH in the west won't work. Looks like
we'll have to use his You Are the Committee program.

Subject: I: If the season ended today and fill-in-the bracket script

There's a new "If the Season Ended Today" available at
<http://slack.net/~whelan/tbrw.cgi?pairwise.current>; to stir some
discussion, these were the brackets I got:

5W Michigan (C) 6E Mercyhurst (M)
4W St Cloud (W) 3E Maine (H)
     1W New Hampshire (H)--+--2E Boston Univ (H)
                           |
     2W Minnesota (W) --+--1E Denver U (W)
3W Mich State (C) 4E Cornell (E)
6W CO College (W) 5E AK-Fairbanks (C)

Also, note that the hypothetical script that calculates the
comparisons given specified results of the conference tournaments is
also available at <http://slack.net/~whelan/tbrw.cgi?brack> or
<http://slack.net/~whelan/tbrw.cgi?hypo>.

As always, the easy-to-remember gateway address for all of these is
