Since we're strolling down memory lane, it is interesting to note that
in 1896 a group of student tennis players (mostly from Brown and Yale) made
a trip to Canada to compete in a Canadian tennis tournament and 'discovered'
the game of ice hockey during their stay. They brought the game back to
their respective schools and college hockey in the United States was born.
Prior to 1896, several New England schools, such as Brown, fielded ice polo
teams (played with a round ball and field hockey-like sticks).
Ah yes, those were the days.
