14 Maine players scored a point or more, and Maine played 3 periods of
focused, fast hockey. It was a very good team win with much very good
individual effort. See USCHO or BDN articles for the details (or maybe
someone will post their own account here (please!)?).

A friend of mine who often voices criticism of this or that player or
referee was strangely quiet. When asked what the problem was, he said
"There's just not anything to complain about. Niko has come to play
this year. The freshmen look like they've been here for 2 years." Right
on. Fast-paced, confident hockey.

Colin Shields had a great first period, scoring a shooter's goal after a
fine back-checking play by Niko. Maine continued played hard despite a
large lead ... something we've rarely seen since (and I shudder to
mention) the 1992-93 team.

In the first game, St. Cloud State soundly trounced a pretty good
Clarkson team 5-1. SCSU had a great 1st period and then put it on
cruise control. For this reason only, Maine may have a slight advantage
tonight. But SCSU is obviously a very good, very fast and talented
team. On a large ice surface such as their home rink, they looked as
they could dominate most teams.

I look for Clarkson to edge BGSU this afternoon at 5pm, with potentially
a great 8pm game tonight.

Great crowd with an especially good turnout of Maine students. Wahoo!

cheers from Pushaw Lake, wayne

P.S. Michigan beat PC 6-3. Ouch!
