Both Matt Murley and Marc Cavosie returned to the RPI line-up from injuries tonight and spurred the Engineers to a 7-2
victory over Dartmouth in game 1 of the ECAC preliminaries.
Murley had a goal and 2 assists, Cavosie a goal and an assist,
Brad Tapper had 2 assists, Brian Pothier had a goal and an assist and Keith Dupee had a goal and 3 assists as RPI totally dominated the Big Green from start to finish.

The Engineers came out flying, out-skating, out-passing and out-hitting Dartmouth right from the opening faceoff. RPI scored their first goal at 4:33 of the first and never looked back.

Although Dartmouth outshot RPI 35-26, the majority of the shots came from outside and weren't high quality shots. Joel Laing,
coming off 2 shutouts last weekend lost his bid for shutout number 3 in the third period, ending his scoreless streak at 178 minutes 42 seconds. This is the second time this season Laing
has shutout his opponent for 170+ consecutive minutes. But tonight belonged to the forwards. At times, they had the Dartmouth defenders going in circles. RPI coach Dan Fridgen juggled the lines a bit tonight, putting out a crowd pleasing
Troy line consisting of Matt Murley, Marc and Eric Cavosie
(actually the Cavosie brothers are from Cohoes, right across the Hudson River from Troy).

Attendance was unfortunately low (my guess is under 3000)
as once again, the playoffs fall on the weekend RPI goes on spring break. But the home crowd filled the place with noise.
Dartmouth left the ice dejectedly because his team played poorly and they were never really in the game. You can bet that
Bob Gaudet will get them worked up for tomorrow's game. One can only hope that RPI coach Fridgen doesn't let his players mistakenly think the series is over. This was one of the best games RPI has played all year, but they will have to repeat this tomorrow and then step it up a notch higher if they expect to advance in Lake Placid next weekend.
