I have posted this on USCHO extensively over the past couple of months.
The maximum size of any conference should be 10, with 8 being my personal
favorite. The WCHA should not admit any more teams, or else the rivalries
and traditions built by teams like Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota,
Colorado College, and Denver will be watered-down. Gopher fans: Would
you like to play the Badgers only twice in a season? Sioux fans: How
about giving up the Sioux-Gopher series in Grand Forks once in a while
just so other teams can join the league? The answer to both questions
is obvious: NO!!!

The only long-term solution is to develop a pair of new conferences (one
in the East, one in the West). Otherwise, we'll be talking about 14 and
16 team conferences divided into divisions and sub-divisions. Let's not
follow the lead of Basketball/Football conferences.

Brian.
