Colorado College still doesn't seem to be playing their best at home, as
tonight's contest ends in a draw. There were some offensive moments, but
the goaltending and defense still doesn't do too well sometimes.

CC started off the night with a bang, as Cam Kryway beat Pioneer goalie
Stephen Wagner a mere 18 seconds into the first period. The Tigers managed
to hold onto that lead til about two minutes left in the period. Then
Anders Bjork scored a power play goal to tie things up, and 35 seconds
later Bryce Wallnutt gave Denver a 2-1 lead to take into intermission.

The beginning of the second period found Colin Zulianello pulled and Todd
Gustin playing the rest of the game in the Tiger net. Not sure where Jason
Cugnet was, as he wasn't dressed out, if he was still sick or out for some
other reason. The Pioneers increased their lead to 3-1 a minute in on
another power play goal by Bjork. Dan Peters finally stopped the scoring
streak a minute later to pull CC within one. The Tigers got their first
power play goal of the night midway through the period from Kryway to tie
things up again. About 2 minutes later, scuffles broke out near the Denver
net, and Kelly Popadynetz and Aaron Karpan both got 5 for fighting (throwing
a punch) and an automatic game DQ. Two others also ended up in the box with
4 minutes each. Denver jumped back out in the lead on an unassisted goal
by Joe Ritson with 5 minutes left. The lead was back to 2 goals a few
minutes later on an unassisted goal by Mark Rycroft, and things didn't
seem good for the Tigers again. CC got one back with 54 seconds left in
the period on a goal by T.J. Tanberg.

The third period was relatively quiet, penalty-wise, with only one called.
CC started off quickly again, with Darren Clark tying the game 13 seconds
in. Wallnutt gave the Pioneers the lead again 5 minutes into the period,
and CC fans were on the edge of their seats, waiting for the tying goal.
The Tigers got the only power play of the period with 6 minutes left, but
couldn't get a shot on net. CC called timeout with 1:20 left in the
penalty, and 8 seconds after play resumed, Calvin Elfring notched the
team's second power play goal of the night to tie things up a fourth time.
There were some close calls as the minutes ticked down to the end of
reglulation, but CC kept Denver out of the net to force overtime.

Overtime was rough and fast. There were several tripping, holding, etc.
calls that people were upset didn't happen, but it was the usual situation
with overtime, where the referee doesn't call anything unless there's a
serious injury or something. CC had some good chances to win the game,
including Kryway trying for the hat trick, but either Wagner saved them or
the shooter's timing was off and they either missed the net or didn't
really end up taking a shot. But, after what happened with Wisconsin, the
Tigers were fortunate the defense also kept Denver from scoring the
winning goal.

Same two teams tomorrow night, the outcome to determine this year's winner
of the Gold Pan.
