I'd rather have the low scoring team with a solid defense.  It may not
put butts in seats, but that's not too important in college hockey.
Plus, you'd have a chance to win every game.
 
Isn't that what the Florida Panthers did their first season?  They put
Beezer in goal, had Bob Kudelski as their offensive star, and almost made
the playoffs...
