I have been reading with great interest the varing views of fan around
the country on Officials. What is really interesting is that most of you
are just fans. You must remember that what you see in the stand and what
the Offical see on the ice is different due to the angle from which each
is watching. All Officials spend many hours and years learning there
trade and what to watch for in the body langauge of the players on the
ice. Also many Officials have seen these players as they have moved up
from level to level and know what these player have a tendency to do.
As I have said to many of the parents at games I have done over the
years "If you think you can do a better job then we have done I expect
to see you at the District Seminar next fall to become an Official and
join use on the Ice." Too this day I have yet to see any one of these
parents take me up on my offer but I also dont hear any more complaining
from these parents either. My offer now goes out to all of you that are
complaining about Officials If you think you can do a better job come
join us and see what it really like to be making the split seconds
decision you have to make when you are calling a game.
