You are right.  Good seats can always be had from an outdoor box office.
I recall a situation back in the '94-'95 season when a buddy and I headed
for Mariucci for a UM-Denver game looking for tickets. However, instead
of going down an hour or so before, we went near game time. Ben Hankinson (I'm
almost positive it was Ben, might have been Pete), brother of current player
Casey and a former Gopher star, happened to walk near us, and asked
if we wanted tickets for the game for free. I don't know why he gave them
away, or where he got them, but he gave us these tickets for nothing. Of
course, the Gophers lost that game, but there's nothing like free tickets
for seats in the student section.
