As a member of the University of Minnesota hockey pep-band for
three years, I can tell you that we were not paid.  Our bands are run
through a joint effort of the Athletic Dept. and the school of music.
Basically, the school of music provides the directors, and the AD pays
for the trips.  The only requirement of entry into the pep bands, is that
you had to be a member of the pep band in the fall.
        On a personal note, I'd rather have free entrance to the Gopher
hockey games, rather than get paid.  But the free NCAA and WCHA tourney
trips are nice.
