According to a column by Roger Brown in the Thursday, August 8, 1996, edition
of the Portsmouth (NH) Herald, the three Maine players "looking to get out"
are:

     1. Blair Alllsion - believed to be looking into playing for the
Canadian National Team;

      2. Jeff Tory - same as Allison, i.e. Canadian National Team; and

       3. Tim Lovell - believed to be looking into playing in the Western
Hockey League.

There has been some discussion centering around the belief that one
or more of these players may leave the team for the year and then return next
year when the team is again eligible for post season play, presuming that
they retain their eligbility (although that has not been a problem for Maine
players in the past). It seems to me that I also read somewhere that Bret
Clarke, the outstanding young defenseman, may also be thinking about spending
this next year somewhere else and then return the following year.

There is little doubt that the fallout over the recent sanctions
is being felt. One recent article focused on the question of whether or not
new recruits would refuse to attend school this fall. In particular, a
highly sought after recruit, a goalie whose name escapes me, who claimed that
"I could have gone to any school in the country", is now reconsidering his
decision.
