Heidi Snow remembers meeting the dashing young Frenchman on Martha's
Vineyard in the summer of 1994.
 
Michel Breistroff had just finished his junior year at Harvard and was
spending his summer with his first love: hockey.
 
But that summer he also met Heidi, a beautiful New Yorker.  The pair
became inseparable.
 
"He was so brilliant, such a wonderful guy," Snow recalled.
 
Breistroff, 25, received his degree in biological anthropology in June
and joined a professional hockey team in France.  He returned to New York
in May to be with Heidi.  He was en route to train with his new team in
Germany.  Snow was going to join him later to live in their new country.
 
"He called me from the pay phone in the airport and asked me to marry him
and I told him yes," Snow said through heavy tears.
 
"They were going to marry in a year," her mother said.  "I thought their
life was just beginning"
