Summary:

The Dutchmen came up with a huge win on Senior Day and on Union
College's 200th birthday with a 5-3 win over Harvard. Union built a
5-0 lead after 2, and held off Harvard's comeback attempts in the 3rd.

Harvard didn't look like a home-ice playoff team early on. The
Dutchmen started off a little shaky too, but they were able to score
on their first power play opportunity. Russ Monteith picked up a
deflected shot and put it past Tripp Tracy for a 1-0 lead. A few
minutes later, Monteith scored on a breakaway set up by some sloppy
Harvard defense. Unfortunately, Monteith's afternoon ended early when
he had to leave the game with a bruised knee. Shane Holunga added the
Dutchmen's third goal on a hard, high shot from the point. Cory
Holbrough's goal at 17:46 of the first gave Union a 4-0 lead and ended
Tracy's day early.

Union already started to sit back on their lead a bit in the 3rd.
Their only goal of the period came from Chad Thompson when he picked
up a rebound of his own shot and put it past Steve Hermsdorf, who
replaced Tracy in net for Harvard. Once again, Union goalie Trevor
Koenig was outstanding, and stopped all 17 shots he faced in the first
2 periods. At the end of the 2nd, Ryan Donovan was called for a late
hit, giving Harvard a power play to open the 3rd.

Harvard made Union pay for that one as they made it a 5-1 game on that
power play. The Crimson came up with another quick one to make it
5-2, at which point Union coach Bruce Delventhal called a time out to
settle his team down and to remind them that they still had a 3-goal
lead. Harvard kept the pressure on, and made it a 2-goal game on a
shorthanded goal by Swenson at 11:24. From there, Koenig took over
again and Union held on for a 5-3 win.

The win puts the Dutchmen in 10th place in the ECAC, at 6-10-4 in the
ECAC and 9-13-4 overall. They find themselves a point ahead of
11th-place Yale and a point behind 9th-place Cornell. Union finishes
their regular season with games at Colgate and Cornell next weekend.
Yale will travel to Vermont and Dartmouth.

It was also Senior Appreciation Day. Before the game, they honored
goaltenders Mike Gallant and Luigi Villa, forwards captain Cory
Holbrough and Chris Albert, and defensemen Dean Goulet and Shane
Holunga.
