CCHA PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK:  Western Michigan University junior right wing Keith
Jones has been named CCHA Player-of-the-Week for February 1-2.
 
Jones, a 6-1, 188 lb. native of Brantford, Ontario, had seven points (3G, 4A)
in a weekend sweep of Miami University.  In Friday's 8-3 Bronco win, Jones
scored three of the first four goals of the game (including the game-winner),
while assisting on WMU's fifth and sixth goals.  Jones added two assists in
Saturday's 7-2 win.  He set-up Mike Eastwood for the first goal of the game.
 
Jones was a June 1988 seventh round draft pick of the Washington Capitals.
This is the first time in his career Jones has been named CCHA P-O-T-W.

Ohio State at Lake Superior, Feb. 8-9 at the LSSU Norris Center Arena (3,250).
Coaches:  OSU - Jerry Welsh (298-279-41 in his 16th season).  LSSU - Jeff
Jackson (25-3-4 in his first season).  Series:  The Lakers have a 40-23-5
lead, with Lake Superior compiling a 12-0-2 mark in the last 14 games vs. the
Buckeyes.  Last Meeting:  Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at OSU, LSSU swept, 6-4 and 5-1, as
Jay Ness, Tim Harris and Jeff Napierala all had two goals in the series for
the Lakers.  Last Meeting at LSSU:  Feb. 9-10, 1990, the Lakers won twice,
10-2 and 7-4, with Jeff Napierala scoring three goals each night.
 
Western Michigan vs. Michigan, Feb. 8 at Michigan's Yost Arena (8,100) and
Feb. 9 at WMU's Lawson Arena (4,000).  Coaches:  WMU - Bill Wilkinson (177-165-
20 in nine years).  MICH - Red Berenson (131-128-15 in his seventh year).
Series:  Michigan has taken a 21-19-3 lead.  The Wolverines are 9-1-2 in the
last 12 meetings.  Last Meeting:  Dec. 8 at Michigan, the Wolverines won 7-4
behind Don Stone's hat trick.  Last Meeting at WMU:  Dec. 7, Michigan won 6-2
as Mike Helber scored two goals and Chris Gordon made 30 saves.
 
Ferris State at Bowling Green, Feb. 8-9 at the BGSU Ice Arena (5,000).
Saturday's game will be taped by PASS and aired on Sunday.  Coaches:  FSU -
Bob Mancini (19-8-5 in his first year).  BGSU - Jerry York (292-185-23 in 12
years at BGSU, 417-272-26 overall in 19 years).  Series:  The Falcons lead
31-13-5.  Bowling Green is 3-1-2 in the last six meetings.  Last Meeting:
Nov. 16-17 at FSU, the teams played to a 5-5 (OT) tie Friday, while the
Bulldogs won 4-2 Saturday.  Rod Taylor had four goals in the series.  Last
Meeting at BGSU:  Dec. 1-2, 1989, the Falcons swept with 6-2 and 7-2
victories.
 
Michigan State at Miami, Feb. 8-9 at Miami's Goggin Ice Arena (2,200).
Coaches:  MSU - Ron Mason (333-154-21 in 12 years at MSU, 622-264-35 in 25
years overall).  MIAMI - George Gwozdecky (16-48-7 in two years at Miami,
83-78-9 overall in five years).  Series:  The Spartans have a commanding
29-4-1 advantage.  MSU has won the last eight meetings outscoring Miami 50-16.
Last Meeting:  Nov. 24-25 at MSU, the Spartans posted back-to-back shutouts,
4-0 and 8-0, with Mike Gilmore (Friday) and Jason Muzzatti (Saturday)
each earning the wins.  Last Meeting at Miami:  Feb. 9-10, Michigan State won
twice, 4-2 and 5-3.
 
Kent at UIC, Feb. 8-9 at the UIC Pavilion (8,802).  Coaches:  KSU - Bill
Switaj (22-32-5 in his second year).  UIC - Larry Pedrie (9-20-1 in his first
season).  Series:  The Flames lead 8-2-0.  Last Meeting:  Feb. 2-3, 1990 at
KSU, UIC won both games, 6-3 and 6-2.  Last Meeting at UIC:  Jan. 23-24, 1981,
UIC swept, 13-3 and 6-3.

CCHA Playoff Picture:  Lake Superior and Michigan will finish first and second.
LSSU's magic point total to clinch the title is five vs. Michigan.  Ferris
State has clinched sixth place (2 pts. vs BGSU for fifth, 6 pts. vs. MSU for
fourth, 12 pts. vs WMU for third).  Western Michigan has clinched seventh place
(1 pt. vs OSU for sixth, 3 pts. vs BGSU for fifth, 7 pts. vs MSU for fourth).
Michigan State has clinched seventh place (6 pts. vs OSU for sixth, 7 pts. vs.
BGSU for fifth).
 
CCHA Banquet Information:  The 1991 CCHA Awards Banquet will be held on
Thursday, March 7th at the Riverview Ballroom in Cobo Center.  Social hour
begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentations.  Tickets
can be purchased through Joe Louis Arena Customer Service at (313) 567-7500
for VISA, MasterCard and Discover.  Tickets are $20.00 again this year.  A
limited number will be available at the door on March 7th.
 
Weight continues to pile-up points:  Lake Superior sophomore center Doug
Weight has 10 points (six goals, four assists) in the last five games, including
three game-winning goals and a shorthanded marker.  Weight led all players in
scoring at the World Junior Tournament in Saskatoon in December.
 
Shields unbeaten in last 17 games: The University of Michigan freshman
 goaltender
has compiled a 15-0-2 mark since a loss at Lake Superior on November 16th.  He
has allowed 41 goals in 954:43 for a 2.58 GAA during the streak.  Michigan is
undeafeated in their last 12 games (12-0-0).
 
Muzzatti seven saves from second place on MSU charts:  Spartan senior netminder
Jason Muzzatti has made 2,877 career saves leaving him seven behind Ron Scott's
second place 2,884 stops.
 
Welsh approaches 300 career wins:  Ohio State Head Coach Jerry Welsh, in his
16th season at his alma mater, has compiled a career coaching record of
298-279-41 for the Buckeyes.
 
League power play pct.:  Through the first 15 weekends (120 league games), the
combined CCHA power play's are 275-1268 for a .217 conversion rate.
 
Looking Ahead:  Three weekends remain in the 1990-91 CCHA Regular Season.
This weekend's schedule is on the first page.  Feb. 15-16 schedule has Michigan
facing Michigan State in two games at Joe Louis Arena, Ferris State and Western
Michigan play a home-and-home series, Miami at Bowling Green, Ohio State at
UIC and Lake Superior plays at future CCHA member Kent State University.
