Interesting topic. I think there are several examples of teams where the
competition between goalies seemed to bring out the best of each competitively.
The obvious example is Harvard--both Alain Roy and Chuckie Hughes, and the '94
and '93 tandem of Aaron Israel and Tripp Tracy. The latter pairing is
particularly interesting.

Tracy seems to be playing much poorer this year even though he is "the man" for
the Crimson, after Israel bolted for Hershey. IMO Tracy was a force in his
freshman year, highlighted by that epic performance against BU in the Beanpot.
Tracy repeated his magic in the following year's Beanpot, only to be
overshadowed by BC's Greg Taylor, which led me to sing his praises to my HE
friends when I encountered them at the Knick later in the year. Maybe Tracy
is to comfortable in his role, now that Israel isn't around to challenge him
between the pipes.

I won't repeat the other famous tandem of recent years (Dunham/Snow) since
everyone knows their story. Probably the only time where a college coach could
match his goaltenders up with the style of the other team's play. Walsh's
insertion of Snow against LSSU in the final undoubtedly save the game for the
Black Bears. It's also nice to see how well Snow and Dunham are perfoming in
the AHL. I believe Snow has the lowest GAA, and Dunham is one of top three
rated goaltenders. But it could probably be argued that Snow and Dunham didn't
really compete against each other, they were so talented that Walsh never had to
worry about them showing up for the game, only which game he wanted them to show
up for.
