It is unlikey the proposed facility would ever get used for Badger hockey.
Dane County (and the city of Madison) made sure of that with the
renovations to the Great Dane (big ice and refurbished dressing rooms)
and the construction of the Bob Johnson practice facility conviently
located next ot the coliseum.
 
As usual, UW dragged its feet on a proposal and was beat to the punch.
In all fairness, the convocation center was heavily debated at a
time when the UW ath. dept. was very deep in the hole.
