Waived off, as long as the puck leaves the stick before time expires...

Subject: Icing rules question
With the recent fine question and answers on DQs, I'll pitch in with a
new question ...
In a UMaine game this past weekend, Team A, with their man-down time
about to expire, fires the puck for the length of the ice. Before the
puck crosses the goal line extended, however, the penalty time expires
and Team A returns to full strength.
Question: Was icing whistled or waived off?
(I must admit, it's been so long since I've seen this situation, I'd
forgotten the correct call!)
cheers, wayne
